Stadium Venue
It's hard to believe that it is now 17 years since St Johnstone Football Club moved from Muirton Park to the 10,700 all-seater McDiarmid Park on Crieff Road. However, that's the reality and Saints continue to entice local football supporters along to the stadium for their matches in the Scottish Football League.
When the Crieff Road facility was at the planning stage, Club Chairman Geoff Brown was among the first to recognise that in order to raise revenue, football grounds had to become a seven day a week concern and not simply be used for a couple of hours every second Saturday. To that end, he ensured that the new stadium was well equipped with rooms and suites that allowed the club to host business meetings, conferences and seminars during the day as well as becoming a new venue in Perth for social events such as engagement, birthday and anniversary parties, wedding receptions, Christmas parties and a wide range of other occasions.
It has proved to be a great success over the years, helped greatly by the stadium's convenient location and vast amount of parking and in the intervening time the Club have ensured that the facilities have been kept modern and fresh. The result is that McDiarmid Park is one of Perth's busiest locations with each day seeing a range of people attending meetings and conferences, popping into the public restaurant for lunch or attending a social event. Not to mention all the activity directly related to the football side of things!
