We asked three generations of the same, well known, Perth family to choose their summer wardrobe and tell us how they find their own particular style.

Charlie Taylor (47) is one of the UK’s top hairdressers. Founder and owner of a chain of four luxury hair and beauty salons in Perth, Dundee, St Andrews and Bridge of Allan, Charlie takes the business of style seriously.

“Hairdressing is a fashion industry,” she says. “It’s important for my career to reflect that in the way I dress, and that needs to be with a bit of a twist – ahead of the game. These days I don’t just cut hair, I travel the world teaching other stylists and offer hair and beauty advice on TV. I need to keep my cutting edge.

“When I was very young, I used to love ultra-modern, trend-busting fashions. Nothing was too avant-garde or outrageous for me then – I did the Bay City Rollers tartan trousers thing, and the binliner and safety-pin punk thing, and before anyone else!

“As I’ve got older, however, my tastes have veered towards the classy – but always with a definite twist. I don’t like to be boring or conservative, but I do like to be appropriately upmarket in my look.”

And does she share clothes with Sacha, her 13 year old daughter?

“All the time, but it’s not a two-way process. She pinches things from me, not the other way around! It’s impossible for me to dictate what she wears any more,” she adds. “She definitely has her own ideas about style these days.”

“Mum wears posh stuff,” says Sacha (13). But it doesn’t stop her helping herself to whatever takes her fancy in her mother’s wardrobe, as long as it fits in with her own more relaxed, sporty look.
