Living the Good Life at STJ
Today, we’re all more aware of how we can affect the environment. Taking care of the world we live in has become important for many of us, yet sometimes it seems that almost everything we do has an impact on the planet’s fragile eco-system - from taking a plastic carrier bag at the till to carry our shopping, to jetting off on an exotic holiday abroad.
But living responsibly doesn’t need to mean giving up the good life. At St John’s Shopping Centre there are plenty of ways to put something back into the environment, reduce our carbon footprint, and enjoy shopping where it won’t cost the earth.
Bag to Basics
Get your hands on Perth’s very own exclusive eco-chic bag at St John’s Shopping Centre in August. Bring your old plastic carrier bags to St John’s Shopping Centre between Saturday 16th and Sunday 24th August, and exchange them for a £1 discount off our stylish jute Love Bug bag priced at £7.50, designed by chart topping singer Sandi Thom. Destined to be a collectible, and only available exclusively within St John’s Shopping Centre, the bag is made from hessian organically produced fabric and will leave you wistfully wishing that you too were a punk rocker, with flowers in your hair.
Fair Trade at Monsoon Accessorize
If you’re trying to cut down on the number of plastic bags you use, there’s a choice of pretty, funky and elegant cotton shopping bags at Monsoon Accessorize. In a range of designs from florals to geometrics, the bags are made from Fairtrade cotton and costs between £5 and £12.
Fairtrade cotton is grown using sustainable farming methods that won’t damage the local environment. Buyers guarantee to pay a fair price to the producers, and put money into projects – such as schools and clean water pumps - that benefit the whole community where the cotton is farmed.
Monsoon also has a stylish selection of Fairtrade cotton T-shirts and jeans, for both adults and children. Prices start from £11.
