Attracting young people into the hospitality and tourism sectors is essential to the long term success of such an important part of our economy. Springboard Scotland play a crucial role in promoting the opportunities available within this sector, namely through a variety of programmes and activities geared towards raising awareness. The introduction of the "Who wants to be a hotelier" board game is an exciting addition to the range of products used by Springboard to stimulate interest and enthusiasm for the sector.

The board game manages to successfully combine fun with education. Players take on the role of hotel manager for the game and are responsible for the smooth and effective running of their business.

With sponsors in the Industry including The Westin Turnberry Resort, Gleneagles Hotel, Prestonfield, St Andrews Bay Golf Resort & Spa, Apex Hotels, Visit Scotland, Scottish Hotel School, Stobo Castle, Skibo Castle, Stirling Management Centre and The Three Chimneys Restaurant in Skye. The phenomenal support and unity of some of Scotland's leading hotels highlights the success of this project.

After winning a Scottish Enterprise Tourism Innovation Development award, the game gained further credibility and had the financial backing required to take it's development a stage further.

Developed to be a fun and educational board game, aimed at giving high school pupils of all ages an insight into the tourism and hospitality industry in Scotland. Teachers will able to use it in different ways to meet core module objectives in subjects such as Travel and Tourism, Hospitality, Home Economics and Business Management.

The aim of the game is to manage the most financially successful hotel whilst learning about the hospitality and tourism industry in Scotland. Players take on the role of hotel manager for the duration of the game, and are responsible for the smooth and effective running of their business, through a process of answering questions and making decisions on such aspects of business as investment and dealing with customers. Players will also have to take into consideration many of the other types of business and jobs that are involved in Scotland's tourism industry - whilst of course having fun and competing against their peers.

Copies of the game are available for just £47.50 each plus VAT. To reserve your copy please contact Vicki McQueen by email . Vicki McQueen and Carolyn Baird are the two new Springboard team members now operating from Perth College, should you wish to find out more about Springboard activities in your area please contact either Vicki or Carolyn on 017388 77436.
