THE ‘NEW BUSINESS’ INTERVIEW
With Sam Mayall - The Blairgowrie Cook Shop
by Athole Murray Fleming

Ever Since Sam Mayall worked at ‘Banners Cookshop’ in Congleton Cheshire as a Saturday girl she wanted to own her own Cookshop, and despite never dreaming that one day she would do it…she has….in
Blairgowrie!
And, to live in Scotland was another of Sam’s dreams, so in choosing Perthshire we can all celebrate and welcome a new resident to our area with a passion for Perthhsire life.
Moving to the Blairgowrie area up in the Glens, Sam says that it was the people of Blairgowrie and the wider community that gave her the confidence to fulfil her dream.
“Everyone I have met and spoken to about my ideas have been wonderfully supportive and positive and without that I don’t think I would have done it’, says Sam.
"I have never ran my own business before and was terrified about being the person where the buck stops and not having a Boss to rely on to sort out the difficult things, but I was determined that I was made of the stuff you need to succeed, stubbornness.
I wanted to set up a quality Cookshop where people could come and get interesting items and gadgets for their kitchens as well as the basic pots and pans, but the over riding issue to me was that it had to be quality, I have only put in brands that I know are of a high standard and not just a ‘name’ but are also very affordable. I also have listened to what people expect from a Cookshop and in my first month I have added things that have been suggested to me and items people wanted to see in the shop”, continued an enthusiastic Sam
Mayall, businesswoman.
“The general public upon my opening have been very generous with their comments and thanked me for opening up such a quality shop in the town and have expressed that I have made a positive impact, and a welcomed one, which makes me feel fantastic.
I love going to work in the mornings and don’t clock watch anymore.
I am enjoying everything I am doing because I am doing what I want. I love working with the general public despite their reputation, they treat you as you treat them and when they visit my shop they are treated with instant respect, friendliness, attentiveness and a willingness to meet their needs where at all possible”, finished Sam.
