Creating the right
first impression
for yourself and your business
Advances in modern dentistry mean that cosmetic dentistry is transforming the
lives of thousands of people throughout Scotland. Like it or not - as a society
we do judge one other by first impressions - and the lack of a healthy looking
smile can cause others to make unconscious and possibly negative assumptions
about us.
A study conducted by the university of London took identical photographs
where all they changed was the smile - one healthy and one with a stained and
crooked smile, and asked people to rate them in terms of friendliness , honesty,
popularity, level of job prospects etc The photographs with the good teeth rated
much higher in all categories than those without.
Dr Elaine Halley from Cherrybank Dental Spa in Perth is the vice president of
the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry who recently commissioned a Mintel
survey on the UK population's perception of cosmetic dentistry.
"There is an increasing demand for cosmetic dental procedures such as
tooth whitening and porcelain veneers in the UK. This is very much in line with
the general awareness of how important it is to look and feel healthy -
including exercise and healthy nutrition. Looking after your smile and making
sure your teeth and gums are healthy is part of overall well being."
There are proven links between a healthy mouth and a healthy body - many
diseases such as heart disease and diabetes have been linked to the painless and
very prevalent periodontal or gum disease.
"The gift of a smile can brighten up any day. Every day our team at
Cherrybank Dental Spa share in the transformations and bear witness to the fact
that self-esteem can improve dramatically when a person who was previously
self-conscious about their smile can now smile freely in company - and just be
themselves."
