"Why join the Chamber?"

By Marilyn Wallace, Business Manager Perthshire Chamber of Commerce

Any potential member will ask the question, "What advantages will membership of the Chamber of Commerce give to me or my company?"
There are many advantages but the first that springs to mind would be that Chamber membership opens up a potential new customer base. Whenever possible, Chamber members will utilise goods and services offered by fellow members and this can be of particular importance to new businesses who may be asking themselves whether membership is a worthwhile investment. Young companies can benefit instantly from an enlarged potential customer base through networking opportunities created by the many events organised by the Chamber. Networking is the cornerstone of Perthshire Chamber and through attending the Perthshire Business Fair, monthly lunches, the Annual Golf Day, evening seminars or Annual Dinner, members can make themselves and their goods or services known to a wide spectrum of the business community. They will also be included in, and receive a copy of the Scottish Chambers' Directory, the Perthshire Chamber Appointments Diary and Yearbook, and be linked live via the Chamber's website.

Chamber membership also offers the opportunity to tell others your success stories which are published free in the monthly newsletter, ChamberNews. For a modest payment you can include an advertising flyer mailed with the newsletter to over 500 businesses or obtain a label run of the complete membership.

On a different note, membership allows businesses to save money through discounts such as on telephone calls through Chamber Telecom, or health packages through the Westfield Health Scheme or the BUPA/Brogan Healthcare package which have been tailored to the needs of businesses of various sizes.

Being a member of Perthshire Chamber of Commerce also means being represented on a variety of organisations and committees with your concerns being brought to the attention of Perth & Kinross Council, local MPs and MSPs and Scottish Enterprise Tayside. The Chamber uses its influential position responsibly to represent members at regular meetings with these bodies. However, representation is not merely local. Through affiliation with Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Perthshire Chamber can make local businesses be heard at regional and national levels.
